Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he is “not an Other Backward Class (OBC)” by birth.

Speaking during his ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Odisha’s Jharsuguda, the Wayanad MP said that PM Modi was born in the general caste.

“PM Modi was not born in the OBC category. He was born Teli caste in Gujarat. The community was given the tag of OBC in the year 2000 by the BJP. He was born in the General caste…He will not allow caste census to be conducted in his entire life because he was not born in OBC, he was born in General caste,” Gandhi said.

He also took a dig at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal party saying that the BJP and the BJD are same in their approach towards the Adivasis.

“The only difference between BJP and BJD is of ‘P’ and ‘D’, the rest is all same. There is a conspiracy going on here in Odisha to steal the land of Adivasis,” the Congress leader said.

Clad in a white t-shirt, Gandhi resumed the yatra on Thursday from the Old Bus Stand in Jharsuguda and moved towards Kissan Chowk in an open jeep. AICC leader Ajoy Kumar and OPCC president Sarat Pattnayak accompanied him. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will enter Chhattisgarh in the afternoon from Odisha.
