Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Vantara, a wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and conservation centre built by Reliance industries Limited (RIL) in Gujarat. The facility houses more than 1,5 lakh rescued animals across 2,000 species. The aim is to provide world-class veterinary care and to make a safe environment for endangered and rehabilitated wildlife.
During his visit, PM Modi explored the facility, communicated with rescued animals and witnessed medical treatments being provided at the Vantara’s advanced veterinary hospital.
Vantara’s speciality
Vantara is equipped with a state-of-the-art wildlife hospital and has facilities of ICUs, MRI, CT scans. It also has specialized departments including Nephrology, Wildlife Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, Endoscopy and Cardiology.


PM Modi interacted with rescued animals
PM Modi watched several activities being performed at the Vantara like an Asiatic lion was undergoing an MRI scan in the hospital’s advanced imaging facility, a life saving surgery was conducted on a leopard which was rescued from a highway accident. He also visited hydrotherapy pools for elephants who were suffering from arthritis. This specialised pool will help them in their recovery and mobility. The rehabilitation efforts at Vantara is to restore animals to the wild when possible for ensuring long term conservation planning.
The prime minister also fed endangered cubs, Rhino calf, Giraffe and also walked among Zebras. He fed and played with rare and endangered cubs like Caracal cubs, Clouded leopard cub, Asiatic lion clubs. Additionally, he also watched crocodiles, a large phyton, Bongo Antelopes and Giant Otters.
PM Modi also interacted with veterinary experts and caretakers, and praised them for their efforts in animal welfare.
