Chenab Bridge Inauguration Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chenab and Anji Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, June 6. He also flagged off two Vande Bharat trains connecting Katra to Srinagar, promoting tourism and economic development.
Chenab Bridge
Standing 359 metres above the Chenab River, the bridge is the world’s highest railway arch and part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The 1,315-metre-long structure, built to withstand 260 kmph winds and seismic activity, is expected to drastically reduce travel time between Katra and Srinagar to just about three hours.

Anji Bridge
Alongside the Chenab Bridge, PM Modi will inaugurate the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge. Spanning 473 metres across the Anji river, the bridge features a single 331-metre pylon supported by 96 cables. Designed for difficult terrain and seismic resilience, the bridge will enhance connectivity and logistics to the Kashmir Valley.
USBRL Project
The USBRL project, worth Rs 43,780 crore, includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges across 272 km, ensuring year-round rail access to the Kashmir Valley.
Other development projects
In Katra, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth over Rs 46,000 crore. This includes critical roads, flyovers in Srinagar, and a Rs 350 crore Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, the first medical college in Reasi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off two special Vande Bharat trains on Friday, which will run on Katra-Srinagar-Katra route in Jammu and Kashmir. These new trains will reduce travel time approximately by 2 to 3 hours and provide all-weather connectivity to the Kashmir Valley.
