Parliament Winter Session Live: On the seventh day of the Winter Session, the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, 2023, was moved in the Rajya Sabha for consideration and passage by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. The bill seeks to establish a committee of the Prime Minister, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and a Cabinet Minister nominated by the PM to select members of the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, the Centre has withdrawn the three bills on criminal laws, that aim to replace the existing ones, from Lok Sabha and has introduced them afresh following various recommendations made by a parliamentary panel.
Earlier on Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2023 were passed by the Rajya Sabha, which followed the Supreme Court upholding the revocation of Article 370 from the erstwhile state.
