Parliament Winter Session Day 11 Highlights: As the Parliament met for Day 11 of the Winter Session, stormy scenes were witnessed in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over the security breach issue as the Opposition launched an all-out offensive against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), demanding a thorough probe and a statement by Home Minister Amit Shah in the Parliament.
‘BJP jawaab do, sadan se bhaagna band karo’ and ‘We want justice’ chants by the Opposition were heard in the Parliament. As the logjam continued, 33 opposition MPs, including LoP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, were suspended from Lok Sabha. While 30 of them were suspended for the remainder of the session, three MPs, including K Jayakumar, Vijay Vasanth and Abdul Khaleque, were suspended pending report of Privileges Committee.
Additionally, 45 Opposition MPs, including Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Randeep Surjewala, were suspended from the Rajya Sabha for “misruly conduct” and disrupting the proceedings of the Upper House. Of these 34 were suspended for the remainder of the session while 11 were suspended pending a Privileges Committee report. Both the Houses were adjourned for the day.
Earlier on Friday, 13 Lok Sabha MPs and one Rajya Sabha MP were suspended for the remaining session duration. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to revoke the suspension of 13 parliamentarians.
