Mumbai is headed for a fresh round of intense showers from Monday to Wednesday, driven by ongoing monsoon activity, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). After a short period of lighter rains, Mumbai and its suburbs will again witness rain at intervals, cautioning residents to expect moderate to heavy showers, particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday. As per the Met Department prediction, heavy rain is likely to take place across Maharashtra through the week.

A fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic circulation over central India are building up monsoon currents towards the Konkan region. The IMD has placed Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad under a yellow alert as heavy rains are predicted to increase through midweek, increasing the risk of waterlogging and travel disturbances.

IMD Weather update for Mumbai

Monday, Aug 25, 2025: Expect rain at times along with morning breezes, temperature to vary from 26 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius.

Tuesday, Aug 26, 2025: Thick cloud coverage with light rains in the morning followed by scattered showers in the afternoon.

Wednesday, Aug 27, 2025: Cloudy weather is expected to continue along with occasional light rain. The forecast extends the possibilities of rain to Thursday onwards, but with lower intensity.

The Weather Department has also warned of localised flooding, urban waterlogging, and tree uprooting, and road, rail, and air transport is likely to be affected, especially in low-lying areas and vulnerable urban zones.

Weather forecast for Maharashtra

As per the weather bulletin, Konkan and Goa will experience heavy rains from August 25 to August 30, and severe downpours are expected on August 28. Parts of Madhya Maharashtra are expected to get heavy showers from Aug 27 to Aug 30.

Parts of Madhya Maharashtra are also likely to receive heavy rain on August 24 and again from August 27 to 30. Recent incidents of heavy downpours in this month have led to widespread waterlogging in Dadar, Kurla, and Sion, resulting in long traffic jams and delays in local train services.

This latest prediction comes after Mumbai recorded above normal rainfall activity earlier in August, with some days receiving more than 200 mm in 24 hours.
