Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election Results 2023 Highlights: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a remarkable comeback in Madhya Pradesh, having overcome the big hurdle of anti-incumbency. The saffron party’s magic has taken it way past the majority mark of 116 seats by winning 163 constituencies. Congress was in for a huge setback as it could mangae to win on 66 seats on Sunday.

Elections to the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly took place on November 17, which witnessed a voter turnout of 76.22 per cent. Polling in the Hindi heartland state passed off peacefully, barring a few minor incidents of violence in Dimani. The BJP state government, led by four times MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is retained power banking on PM Modi’s name, poll promises and welfare schemes. The opposition, on the other hand, Congress mounted an all-out effort to unseat the ruling party, hoping to ride on the anti-incumbency factor, but had to face disappointment.
The exit poll findings for the MP Assembly elections had hinted at a tight contest in the state, with three surveys predicting a saffron sweep in the state while three others predict a slight lead for the Congress. Two others had also placed Congress in the lead while one other had given BJP the upper hand.

"We accept the decision of voters of Madhya Pradesh in this contest for democracy. I congratulate BJP and hope that they will live up to the support people have given them," Kamal Nath said.
BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan has for the sixth consecutive time won from his home turf, Budhni constituency. He won by securing 1,64,951 votes, with a margin of over 1,04,000 votes. Congress candidate Vikram Mastal Sharma clinched 59,977 votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his first reaction to the Madhya Pradesh win, thanked the voters for their "unwavering support".
"The results in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan indicate that the people of India are firmly with politics of good governance and development, which the @BJP4India stands for," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In his first reaction to the election results, Congress party chief Mallikarjun Kharge thanked the people of Telangana for the mandate and termed the party's performance in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as "disappointing".
Conceding defeat, Kharge took to X and wrote, "The Congress party fought a spirited campaign in all these four states. We will overcome temporary setbacks and prepare ourselves fully for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections along with the INDIA parties."
On the future of the INDIA Alliance, National Conference Vice President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, "I cannot say anything. The situation of the INDIA Alliance in the state elections, if the same continues in the future, then we will not be able to save ourselves... The Congress could not understand the ground situation in Madhya Pradesh. What would have they lost if they had given 5-7 seats to Akhilesh Yadav... They have lost anyway. It is possible that if Akhilesh Yadav was given a few seats, we could save ourselves a little in MP. Now the results are out..."
A clash broke out between BJP and Congress workers in Madhya Pradesh's Shajapur; police used lathi charge to disperse them.
BJP's Ghanshyam Chandravanshi has won from the Kalapipal constituency by more than 11,000 votes.
BJP leader and candidate from Indore 1 constituency, Kailash Vijayvargiya, said, "They (Congress) will sit and review this (party's defeat)..."
On being asked about the CM's face, Vijayvargiya said, "It will be a BJP candidate who will once again take Madhya Pradesh on the path to development..."
BJP's Prahlad Singh Patel leading by 20,000 votes in the Narsinghpur assembly constituency, after 12 rounds of vote counting.
“I dedicate this win to our Ladli Behnas and PM Modi. We will take Madhya Pradesh forward…,” said Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan to party workers as the party leads towards a landslide victory in the state.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister and BJP leader Ashwini Vaishnaw exchange sweets as the party leads.
On MP election results, Union minister and BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia in Bhopal said, "Congress was preparing Ladoos and congratulatory posters were put up. While we were doing our work quietly...Ladli Behna scheme is a game-changer and the full credit for it goes to Shivraj Singh Chouhan."
Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "Modi ji MP ke mann mein hain aur Modi ji ke mann mein MP hai. He held public rallies here and appealed to the people and that touched people's hearts. These trends are a result of that. Double-engine government properly implemented the schemes of the Central Government and the schemes that were formed here also touched people's hearts. Madhya Pradesh became a family...I had said earlier too that the BJP would get a comfortable and grand majority as people's love for us was visible everywhere." Read more

MP election results 2023 | Congress is trending ahead of the BJP in the Niwas assembly constituency, after six rounds of vote counting, according to the election commission.
BJP veteran leader Narrotam Mishra, who has been winning the Datia constituency seat since 2008, is trailing by over 2243 votes.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with party leaders Narendra Singh Tomar and Jyotiraditya Scindia, at the party office in Bhopal, oversees election results as the counting of votes continues.

Preparations for the celebration are underway at the BJP office in Bhopal as trends suggest the party leading in Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh.
As per the latest Election Commission (EC) trends, Shivraj Singh Chouhan is leading a margin of over 21,000 votes.
State Home Minister and BJP candidate from Datia, Narottam Mishra said, "BJP will win 125-150 seats. Not only in Madhya Pradesh but the BJP will also form government in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh..."
As per the Election Commission (EC) trends, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on 133 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress has taken a lead on 54 seats.
As BJP crosses the halfway mark and leads on 133 seats in the state as per official EC trends, Madhya Pradesh BJP president VD Sharma said, "We had said 'Madhya Pradesh ke mann mein Modi aur Modi ke mann mein Madhya Pradesh' - people blessed this drive...I am proud that with the work of booth-level workers of the BJP, we are fulfilling the resolution of 51% voting in every booth. With counting of votes underway for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to extend his "hearty congratulations" to all candidates contesting on BJP tickets.
"Today the results of Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections are coming and I am confident that with the blessings of the people and the able leadership of respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, Bharatiya Janata Party is going to form the government again with full majority," he wrote.

At the Pradesh Congress office, Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath said, “I have not seen the trends, I trust the voters of Madhya Pradesh that they will keep their own future secure…Don’t count the number of seats. We will win comfortably…”
The counting of votes in Madhya Pradesh began at 8 am today. The first hour is usually dedicated to the counting of postal ballots.
The political futures of incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, his Congress challenger Kamal Nath, and that of some other senior leaders from both the parties will be decided through this election — with the big question being whether four-time CM Chouhan can counter anti-incumbency to script the BJP’s victory and retain his chair. In its single-phase polling for its 230 assembly seats on November 17, Madhya Pradesh recorded its highest ever Assembly election turnout at 76.22 per cent. This went up from 75.63 per cent in 2018, which was the previous record high since the state’s formation in 1956.
As per the early trends, the BJP has taken a marginal lead over Congress in Madhya Pradesh.
