As the month of July begins on a rainy note, the city craving for the first showers of the season will welcome monsoon this weekend, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials predicted on Friday.

Monsoon, delayed by a week this year, will arrive in Delhi within 24 hours. Intermittent rains were reported from different parts of Northern India with the national capital receiving a minimum of 13 mm rainfall on Friday morning.

With the couple of expected heavy spells, the imminent rains would provide the much awaited relief from the wilting humidity and heat wave in the city.

After the heavy spells in Uttarakhand, IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 72 hours and issued an alert in North India including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
