Gunshots were fired at the Golden Temple premises in Amritsar on Wednesday during the presence of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders, including party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal. The leaders were performing ‘seva’ as part of the religious punishment, imposed by the Sikh clergy at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Police quickly apprehended a man who allegedly attempted to target Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the temple. The incident has heightened security concerns around the revered site.

Badal had been fulfilling his duty as a sewadar (volunteer) at the Golden Temple. This service is part of a religious penance directed by the Sikh clergy.
