Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday strongly condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, labeling it as a “cowardly and despicable act.” Kharge assured that such acts of violence will not hinder India’s commitment to infrastructure development in the region.
In a post on X, Kharge stated, “We strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal, where several construction workers and a doctor were killed. This inhumane and despicable act of targeted violence shall not deter India in building key infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir.” He also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The attack occurred at a construction site in Gagangir, Sonamarg, where terrorists opened fire, killing a doctor and six construction workers. In response, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) dispatched a team, led by a senior officer, to investigate the incident. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to locate the attackers.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also condemned the attack, stating that those responsible would face justice. “We have given full freedom to the J&K Police, Army, and Security forces,” his office tweeted.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were among the other leaders who condemned the attack. Gadkari expressed his condolences to the victims’ families, while Abdullah called it a “dastardly and cowardly” assault on innocent, non-local laborers.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also weighed in, calling the attack a “crime against humanity” and asserting that the entire nation stands united against terrorism.
The attack has triggered widespread outrage, with leaders across party lines condemning the violence and vowing that it will not derail India’s development efforts in Jammu and Kashmir.
