NCP (Sharad Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar announced on Thursday that the Maha Vikas Aghadi opposition alliance will kick off its campaign for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections on November 6.
The campaign will be spearheaded by Pawar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray.
While speaking to reporters in his hometown of Baramati, Pune district, Sharad Pawar was asked about the friendly contests among Maha Vikas Aghadi partners – NCP (SP), Congress, and Sena (UBT) – in certain constituencies, Pawar mentioned that there are only about 10-12 seats where two MVA candidates have filed nominations.
“I am confident we will find a solution in the next couple of days and resolve the issue,” he said.
The veteran leader stated that the MVA will present a “programme” (common minimum programme) to the people of Maharashtra to seek their support. Pawar added that the campaign launch will feature himself, Rahul Gandhi, and Uddhav Thackeray.
Senior Congress leader Nana Patole announced on Wednesday that the MVA will hold a joint rally in Mumbai on November 6, where it will unveil the opposition bloc’s election guarantees for the assembly polls.
Within the MVA, Congress is contesting 103 seats, followed by Sena (UBT) with 89 candidates and NCP (SP) with 87. Other MVA allies are contesting six seats, while three constituencies remain undecided.
The Maharashtra assembly election to elect 288 members is scheduled for November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
