The police has today arrested Satish Saraogi, the main accused in the Katni Hawala scam from Jabalpur. Last month, the family of Santosh Garg, another accused in the scam, was set to cremate him in Hardwar when the Madhya Pradesh Police in coordination with Uttar Pradesh counterparts got the final rites stopped, a report by ‘The Indian Express’has said.

It was done in the middle of allegations that that Garg’s death was suspicious.

Garg, a businessman, went missing since the money laundering scam broke in Katni town of Madhya Pradesh in 2016.

An employee of his firm, Amar Dahayat firm, had gone to police after receiving a notice from the Income Tax department, telling him to explain transactions running into crores from his Axis Bank account.
Dahayat, in his complaint, had accused Garg of opening a fake account in his name and making illegal transactions. The state police had filed an FIR on the basis of his complaint.

He was among several Katni residents who received Income Tax notices about huge transactions from their accounts. His account was used to make transactions worth Rs 1.30 crore since January last year.

The police had claimed Gargwas unwell and died a natural death. They said he was getting treatment for liver ailment in Nagpur and Hardwar. The police added they stopped the cremation since he was an accused and did not want to take any chances.

Katni Suprindent of Police Shashikant Shukla also said that the police stopped his cremation with theUP police help and a post-mortem was done. He had aslo added that Garg’s family was certain that he died a natural death.
