In a big setback for the INDIA bloc, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo on Wednesday said that her party will contest the elections alone in Bengal.

“I had no discussions with the Congress party. I have always said that in Bengal, we will fight alone. I am not concerned about what will be done in the country but we are a secular party and in Bengal, we will alone defeat BJP. I am a part of the INDIA alliance,” the CM said.

Over the matter of seat-sharing in West Bengal for the Lok Sabha elections, the TMC supremo said that she has not spoken to anyone in Congress.

Banerjee also said that the party has “not been informed” about the ongoing Rahul Gandhi-led Manipur-to-Mumbai Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

“Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra is passing through our state but we have not been informed about it,” she said, as quoted by ANI.

On Tuesday, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stepped up the ante against the TMC, saying that the party won’t contest the elections at “the mercy of Mamata Banerjee”.

“Congress knows how to contest elections on its own, and the two seats we have won (in 2019 Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal) were by defeating Mamata and BJP. Mamata is an opportunist; she herself came to power in 2011, with the mercy of Congress,” he said.
