Make crash tests mandatory
The idea of making crash tests mandatory for cars is good and is a step in the right direction. It is shocking to note that the road accidents involving the cars are on the rise now. Against this backdrop, the mandatory crash tests will go a long way in securing the lives of the occupants. After all, only those cars which are deemed safe in a crash test will be allowed on the roads.

Nehru, Mahatma and Sardar
The nation is in a flux over reviewing the role of the pantheon of leaders who helped shape the post-Independence India. The epochal Nehru anniversary provides an occasion. It is educative that the assessments on each of them vary. But a larger point is being missed: Gandhi,Nehru and Patel together represented our national ethos that is incomplete without any one of them. Gandhi provided the transcending universal spirit, Nehru the global vision and Patel the nationalist resolve. The political class of this lesser era are sadly engaged in in reconstruing our edifice with a third or more of the basic building blocks missing.
