Union Minister Nitin Gadkari wrote to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday, requesting the withdrawal of the 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on life and medical insurance premiums. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather bulletin has predicted that isolated extremely heavy rainfall will occur in Tamil Nadu and Kerala today. It has also issued a red alert for Coastal Karnataka and South interior Karnataka.
At least 151 people have died and about 186 others were injured, even as rescue operations continue, after a series of landslides hit Kerala’s Wayanad district amid heavy rain on Tuesday. The landslides hit several areas in the district, including Mundakkai, Attamala, Chooralmala and Kunhome, Reuters reported.

Tragedy struck Kerala’s Wayanad district on Tuesday as a series of landslides hit the hilly areas near Meppadi, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. At least 144 bodies have been recovered so far, while 200 people have sustained injuries, with many of them getting treated in hospitals.
According to The Indian Express report, one survivor, Sudarshan, recounted the harrowing experience of waking up to the sound of gushing water and finding his house destroyed by logs of wood and rocks, with the ground floor submerged in slush.
Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed after his residence was targeted in Tehran, as confirmed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iranian state media reported. The IRGC’s Public Relations Department stated that the attack occurred early Wednesday and that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
