During the Karnataka bandh on Friday, which was called by pro-Kannada organizations and farmers' groups to protest the release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu, hundreds of protesters were imprisoned. Over 700 agitators who attempted to block roads during the one-day shutdown were apprehended by the Bengaluru Police.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah posted publicly on X and questioned the silence of 32 BJP MPs over Cauvery River issue. The post says, “Karnataka's call for justice is LOUD and CLEAR! 32 BJP MPs' silence on the Cauvery issue with the PM laid bare. Our state's quest for fairness persists! Are our elected representatives limited to merely justifying the PM's inaction? Is our federal structure meaningful if our voices fall on deaf ears?”.
The Cauvery River water-sharing issue is discussed at a meeting between Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar with retired Supreme Court judges, irrigation specialists, and former advocate generals.
Cauvery Water Control Committee's (CWRC) upheld by Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has recommended to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu each day.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said, “There was a meeting of the Cauvery Management Authority today. We have submitted all our facts. I will hold a meeting with retired Supreme Court Judges today. I will talk with our legal team if we can question this in the Supreme Court. We will decide what to do after talking to them. Let us see what happens next”.
Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar has said that the statewide bandh is totally peaceful. He said that since the apex court and high court had not consented, there was no need for the bandh. He also said that state capital is completely safe.
Pro-Kannada organisations, farmers' association leader Kurubur Shanthakumar, and other organisation leaders met Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and demanded a distress formula solution when there is less rain in the state. (ANI)
The Kannada film industry has come out in support of Cauvery protests. Actors such as Darshan and Shivarajkumar were seen joining the protesters.

Pro-Kannada organization representatives demonstrated in Koppal city while carrying tender coconuts on hands. The bandh had no impact on the district's regular life, nevertheless.
H D Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, asked the state government to free the protesters who had been imprisoned during the bandh over the supply of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

The state government is providing water from the Cauvery River to Tamil Nadu, according to BJP MP Tejasvi Surya. Bengaluru residents won't have access to drinking water if Cauvery River water is delivered to Tamil Nadu in this manner. The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has not heard from the Karnataka government.
Despite all the protests in neighbouring Karnataka, Tamil Nadu remains unfazed. On Friday, Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan said that his state will once again demand the release of water from Karnataka. He also said that Tamil Nadu will move Supreme Court for the resolution.
Kumaraswamy, the JD(S) second-in-command, said the unity of the 'Kannada family' should be a wake-up call to the neighbouring state. "Entire Karnataka is throbbing for the Cauvery struggle. Today's bandh has evoked good response from all quarters," he wrote on 'X' (formerly Twitter). When it comes to the question of land, language and water, everyone should be united, the former CM said, adding this harmony and unity in the Kannada family should be a wake-up call to the neighbouring states. "The government should not suppress Kannada sentiments. The activists who have already been detained should be released," he said. PTI
v'Kannada Okkoota' is the main group that has called for today's state bandh. It is an umbrella organsation of Kannada and farmers' outfits. The group is protesting the release of Cauvery water to neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
Mysuru Bar Association members are staying away from regular court work as they extend their support for the ongoing state bandh.

Karnataka Police says that additional troops have been deployed across the state. Special arrangements have been made in Mandya, Ramnagara, Mysuru among others.
It is still too early to know the impact of the bandh. Initial reports say that Mandya is witnessing robust protests. Section 144 has been imposed in the district.
