Jamshedpur East Election result 2024 Highlights: Purnima Sahu wins by 42,871 votes, defeats Ajoy Kumar in BJP-Congress clash

Purnima Sahu of the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading with 105,111 votes, an increase of 42,586. Ajoy Kumar of the Indian National Congress is trailing with 62,525 votes, a decrease of 42,586.

Purnima Sahu of the Bharatiya Janata Party leads with 74,871 votes, holding a significant margin of 31,690 votes over Ajoy Kumar of the Indian National Congress, who has secured 43,181 votes.

As of Round 12, Purnima Sahu of the Bharatiya Janata Party leads with 63,831 votes, holding a commanding margin of 27,355 votes over Ajoy Kumar of the Indian National Congress, who has secured 36,476 votes.

Purnima Sahu of the Bharatiya Janata Party leads with 50,671 votes, a significant surge of 21,680 votes, while Ajoy Kumar of the Indian National Congress trails with 28,991 votes.

Jamshedpur, often referred to as the industrial capital of Jharkhand, is home to Tata Steel, the region's largest industrial entity. Additionally, Jojobera in Jamshedpur hosts Nuvoco Vistas Corporation Limited, Asia's largest cement grinding unit, making it a major industrial and economic hub.

Jamshedpur East is a key assembly constituency in the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat, located in Jharkhand. Known as the industrial capital of the state, it houses major industrial hubs such as Tata Steel and Nuvoco Vistas Corporation, Asia’s largest cement grinding unit. The city is also renowned for its cinematic culture, earning the nickname 'Mini Mumbai.'

The caste or surname analysis of the Jamshedpur East Assembly seat reveals that the largest voter group is Singh, comprising 16.4% of the electorate with 49,939 voters. This is followed by Muslim voters at 6.3% (19,184 voters) and Prasad at 4.4% (13,398 voters). Other notable communities include Kumar (3.9%, 11,875 voters), Sharma (3.5%, 10,657 voters), and Das (2.7%, 8,221 voters). Smaller groups include Mukhiya, Yadav, and Sahu, each with 1.7% (5,176 voters). Mishra and Jha follow with 1.6% and 1.4% respectively. Other groups like Thakur, Pandey, and Ram each make up 1.2% of the voters, while Saw, Mahto, Chaudhary, Tiwari, Ray, and Lal each account for 1.1%. The remaining communities include Gupta (1%), Sinha, Shah, and Rajak (each 0.8%), and Kumari, Rava, Rao, Mandal, Ghosh, and Lohar (each 0.6% or 0.7%).

The voter turnout in Jamshedpur East was 58.71% during the 2019 Parliamentary Election and 57.02% during the 2019 Assembly Election, indicating moderate voter participation.

As per the 2011 Census, Jamshedpur East has approximately 47,503 SC voters (15.6%), 1,857 ST voters (0.61%), and 19,184 Muslim voters (6.3%) based on voter list analysis.

After Saryu Roy's historic win against Raghubar Das in 2019, Purnima Sahu is now striving to reclaim the seat for the BJP and revive the legacy of development under her father-in-law’s leadership.

Ajoy Kumar served as the Jamshedpur SP from 1994 to 1996, a tenure with an interesting backstory. Before the division of Bihar, he was serving as the City SP of Patna when crime in Jamshedpur surged significantly. Responding to the rise in criminal activity, the then Tata Steel MD, J.J. Irani, requested Chief Minister Lalu Prasad to assign a capable and upright officer to tackle the situation in Tatanagar.

Ajoy Kumar is the Congress candidate from Jamshedpur East, competing against Purnima Das Sahu of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Purnima is the daughter-in-law of Raghubar Das, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and the current Governor of Odisha.
