The Election Commission of India (ECI) will release the draft electoral rolls for Uttar Pradesh on January 6 (today). Earlier, the list was scheduled to be published on December 31. The change came after the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer sought a two-week extension so that District Election Officers could re-check the names of voters marked as deceased, shifted, or absent.
The state had already been given a one-week extension before this. So far, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process has been completed in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

UP SIR: Over 2 crore names may be deleted
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the draft electoral roll, which was earlier expected on December 31, is likely to include around 12.55 crore voters. This suggests that nearly 2.89 crore names may be removed compared to the voter count before the SIR exercise.
People whose names are missing from the list will be allowed to raise objections after the draft rolls are published.
UP SIR list: What to do if your name is not on the list?
If your name does not appear in the draft list, you can file an objection with the Election Commission. According to PTI, Rinwa said, “Untraceable or missing voters who figure among the deleted, would need to show proof of inclusion in the 2003 SIR list or any of the ECI prescribed documents for getting names added to the voters’ list.”
Rinwa also said that the ECI will accept objections against the inclusion of any of the nearly 12.55 crore names in the draft electoral roll. These objections can be submitted using Form 7. If an objection is found to be valid, the concerned name may be removed from the list.
The forms can be submitted online through voters.eci.gov.in or the ECINET app. Offline submissions can be made by visiting the booth level officer (BLO).
