The family of a 21-year-old biker who died in a crash with a car driving on the wrong side near Cyber City questioned the police investigation on Saturday.

The family said authorities had not contacted them and expressed concerns about the release of the accused. Mayank Garg, the elder brother of the deceased, Akshat Garg, said, “We did not understand the law in our case, if we go out on the road without a license, we get a challan, the police stop you, and a case is also filed, but here such a big incident happened, a person died and the police did not even ask for his (accused) license and later released him.

“The incident occurred last Sunday, September 15, at around 6 AM “We got a call from his friend around 7:00 that Akshat has met with an accident in Gurugram and he is very serious in the hospital, when we reached the hospital, we came to know that he has died. Akshat’s group of bikers is very big but that day only one of his friends was with him, from there he used to meet all the bikers near Aravali Hills,” Mayank Garg said.

The deceased’s brother expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the police following the accident, alleging that the investigation officer is also unresponsive.

“The police did not contact us, on the same day when the accident happened, we talked to them on the same day, they said that we will take further action according to the report that comes and now the police is not even talking to us, even our investigation officer is not picking up the phone,” deceased’s brother said, ANI reported.

He further demanded a speedy investigation from the police.

“We demand from the police that the investigation that has been slowed down should be speeded up, we do not know why they are doing it so slowly, what is their fear? I think the police will have to be a little fast in the investigation, the more you delay the investigation, the more the accused will keep running away,” he added.

The deceased was an experienced biker working at a travel agency. On Saturday, police announced that legal action has begun after registering the case.

According to ACP DLF Gurugram Vikas Kaushik, the incident took place last Sunday when the victim was riding his motorcycle near Cyber City. A black vehicle came from the wrong direction, leading to the accident, and the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. “ We have started legal action and after registering a case under the law, we are taking further action.”

Police also confirmed they took a blood sample from the accused. If any traces of alcohol are found, appropriate action will be taken.

The 25-year-old accused reportedly said he was driving on the wrong side to save time. While the investigation is ongoing, police emphasised there is no justification for this behavior. Gurugram Police issued over 16,000 tickets for wrong-side driving last month. “If any trace for alcohol is found, then we will take necessary course of action, currently report is pending for the same,” official said.
