Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to remove a large number of voters from the electoral rolls ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
At a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that the BJP had filed requests with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to delete the names of thousands of voters in constituencies such as Shahdara, Janakpuri, and Laxmi Nagar.
“The BJP has filed an application to delete the names of 11,018 voters in the Shahdara area, but when we cross-checked that application on 500 names, 75 per cent of people were still living there, but their names can be deleted from the electoral roll,” he said, as PTI reported.

The names of these voters, many of whom are AAP supporters, are being deleted, despite their continued presence in the constituency, Kejriwal said, adding that AAP had won the Shahdara seat in the 2020 elections by around 5,000 votes.
He claimed that the deletion of voters’ names could impact the party’s prospects in the upcoming election. Kejriwal further called on the ECI to ensure transparency by uploading all applications for voter deletions to its website by the evening.
On November 21, in an early announcement, AAP unveiled its first list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, which are expected to be held in early 2025.

The party has nominated Brahma Singh Tanwar for Chhatarpur, Anil Jha for Kiradi, Deepak Singhla for Vishwas Nagar, and Sarita Singh for Rohtas Nagar. BB Tyagi will contest from Laxmi Nagar, while Ram Singh Netaji has been named the AAP candidate for Badarpur.
In the previous Delhi Assembly elections, held in 2020, the AAP secured a sweeping victory, winning 62 out of 70 seats. The BJP won 8 seats, while Congress failed to secure any constituencies.
