Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal filed his nomination for the New Delhi seat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday, January 15. Kejriwal is contesting against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Verma and Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit for the high-profile seat in the February 5 election.
Verma also submitted his nomination on Wednesday, while Dikshit will file his papers on Thursday. The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.
In his election affidavit, Parvesh Verma declared his family’s total assets worth Rs 114 crore. Verma, a former two-time BJP MP and ex-MLA, is the son of Delhi’s former chief minister, Sahib Singh Verma. In comparison, Kejriwal’s family net worth, as stated in his affidavit, stands at Rs 4.2 crore. Kejriwal is AAP’s national convenor and a three-time former Delhi chief minister, having won the New Delhi seat in the last three assembly elections.
Parvesh Verma’s Affidavit
Verma has declared a personal net worth of Rs 89 crore, while his wife Swati Singh’s net worth is Rs 24.4 crore, bringing their total family assets to Rs 114 crore. The couple’s children have movable assets worth Rs 1 crore. Verma’s movable assets are valued at Rs 77.89 crore, with immovable assets worth Rs 12.19 crore. Swati Singh’s movable assets are valued at Rs 17.53 crore, and her immovable assets at Rs 6.91 crore.
Verma has Rs 2.2 lakh in cash, while his wife has Rs 50,000. His bank savings total Rs 1.2 crore, with his wife holding Rs 42 lakh. Verma has investments worth Rs 52.75 crore in shares and bonds, while his wife holds investments of Rs 16 crore. Verma has an NSS and insurance investment of Rs 17 lakh, and his wife’s investment in this segment totals Rs 5.5 lakh.
Verma owns three cars – a Toyota Fortuner (Rs 9 lakh), a Toyota Innova (Rs 36 lakh), and an XUV (Rs 11.77 lakh). He also has 200 grams of gold worth Rs 8.25 lakh, while his wife possesses 1,110 grams of gold valued at Rs 45 lakh.
Verma’s declared annual income for 2023-24 was Rs 19.6 crore, a significant increase from Rs 92 lakh in 2019-20. His wife’s annual income for 2023-24 is Rs 91.9 lakh, up from Rs 5.3 lakh in 2019-20.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Affidavit
Arvind Kejriwal, in his affidavit, declared a family net worth of Rs 4.2 crore, which includes his personal assets worth Rs 1.73 crore. Kejriwal resigned as Delhi’s chief minister in September 2024 and has been accused by the BJP of overspending on the Flag Staff residence, dubbed ‘Sheesh Mahal.’
Kejriwal declared movable assets worth Rs 3.4 lakh, including Rs 2.96 lakh in bank savings. His wife, Sunita Kejriwal, has movable assets valued at Rs 1 crore. Kejriwal’s immovable assets total Rs 1.7 crore, while his wife’s immovable assets are valued at Rs 1.5 crore.
Kejriwal does not own a vehicle, while his wife owns a Baleno car. He also owns non-agricultural land worth Rs 1.7 crore in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. The Kejriwals do not own a house, but Sunita owns a property in Gurugram valued at Rs 1.5 crore.
Kejriwal’s annual income in 2019-20 was Rs 1.57 lakh, which increased to Rs 7.2 lakh in 2023-24. Sunita Kejriwal’s income for 2023-24 was Rs 14.1 lakh, up from Rs 10.4 lakh in 2019-20.
Kejriwal has Rs 2.8 lakh in Fixed Deposits, term deposits, and savings at the State Bank of India (SBI), while Sunita holds Rs 46 lakh in similar assets. Kejriwal has no gold or mutual bond investments. Sunita Kejriwal, however, has 320 grams of gold worth Rs 25 lakh and 1 kg of silver valued at Rs 92,000.
