Nathdwara Assembly Elections 2023 LIVE Updates: Congress candidate and Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi lost Nathdwara seat to BJP’s Vishvaraj Singh Mewar by a margin of 7,504 votes.
Vishvaraj Singh, a member of the erstwhile Mewar royal family and a descendant of great Rajput king and warrior Maharana Pratap, secured 94,950 votes. He joined the BJP in October and contested the election for the first time and defeated Congress stalwart Joshi, a five-time MLA and former Union minister.
Nathdwara, the 176th constituency of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, holds significance as one of the Assembly seats in the Rajsamand district, contributing to the Rajsamand Lok Sabha constituency. Designated as a General seat, Nathdwara witnessed crucial voting on November 25, 2023, setting the stage for a decisive electoral battle.

In the 2018 assembly elections, Congress candidate CP Joshi emerged victorious in Nathdwara, securing 88,384 votes. The BJP candidate, leading in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, faced tough competition but fell short. In 2013, BJP candidate Kalyansingh Chouhan won the seat, while the 2014 Lok Sabha polls again saw the BJP in the lead from this constituency. The electoral history of Nathdwara reflects a dynamic political landscape with alternating victories between the two major parties.
In the 2018 elections, CP Joshi from the Indian National Congress (INC) claimed victory, securing a total of 88,384 votes. The runner-up, Mahesh Pratap Singh from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), trailed by a margin of 16,940 votes. The margin between the winning candidate and the runner-up stood at 10.00%, indicating a closely contested electoral battle.

Polling, conducted at over 51,000 booths across 199 assembly seats, commenced at 7 a.m. and concluded at 6 p.m. However, in a democratic gesture, those already in line were allowed to cast their votes. Reports suggest that due to long lines inside polling booths, voting extended until 9 or 10 p.m. in certain areas, underscoring the zeal of voters in exercising their democratic right.
The Election Commission of India will be announcing results on December 3, revealing the results for Rajasthan and four other states. The declaration will unveil the winning candidate and the future Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Nathdwara constituency. The district with the highest voter turnout, Jaisalmer, takes the lead, followed by Hanumangarh and Dholpur.

Official ECI trends show that BJP has 71 seats, Congress has 46 seats, and BSP in two and RLD in one seat each in the Rajasthan elections 2023.
In 199-seat Rajasthan Legislative assembly, Congress has a lead on one seat, according to Election Commission.
"The strong rooms are open. The postal ballots have arrived at the Vidhan Sabha constituencies, where they are being opened with the candidates and agents present...The situation is peaceful everywhere so far. All the political agents are at their respective constituencies..." says District Election Officer Himanshu Gupta.
"The results will be better than our hopes and expectations. We are retaining power in both Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. We will reclaim power in Madhya Pradesh and claim power in Telangana" Congress leader Pawan Khera said.
Counting across 199 Assembly constituencies begins at 8 AM. Both parties are confident about winning the election. Counting will start will postal ballots at 8 AM, EVM counting will 8 30 AM.
Just hours before the counting of votes started, Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra said that he was confident that his party would form the government in the state with a full majority. He said to ANI, "The voters of Rajasthan have given full faith and support to the Congress candidates because of our good governance." He made the statement on Sunday.
CP Joshi of Congress secured 88384 votes and won Nathdwara constituency number 175 of Rajasthan in 2018. The closest contender was Mahesh Pratap Sigh from BJP who received 71444 votes. The difference between the winner and the runner up in this seat in 2018 elections was 16940 votes.
