Nathdwara Assembly Elections 2023 LIVE Updates: Congress candidate and Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi lost Nathdwara seat to BJP’s Vishvaraj Singh Mewar by a margin of 7,504 votes.

Vishvaraj Singh, a member of the erstwhile Mewar royal family and a descendant of great Rajput king and warrior Maharana Pratap, secured 94,950 votes. He joined the BJP in October and contested the election for the first time and defeated Congress stalwart Joshi, a five-time MLA and former Union minister.

Nathdwara, the 176th constituency of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, holds significance as one of the Assembly seats in the Rajsamand district, contributing to the Rajsamand Lok Sabha constituency. Designated as a General seat, Nathdwara witnessed crucial voting on November 25, 2023, setting the stage for a decisive electoral battle.

Previous Assembly elections result

In the 2018 assembly elections, Congress candidate CP Joshi emerged victorious in Nathdwara, securing 88,384 votes. The BJP candidate, leading in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, faced tough competition but fell short. In 2013, BJP candidate Kalyansingh Chouhan won the seat, while the 2014 Lok Sabha polls again saw the BJP in the lead from this constituency. The electoral history of Nathdwara reflects a dynamic political landscape with alternating victories between the two major parties.

In the 2018 elections, CP Joshi from the Indian National Congress (INC) claimed victory, securing a total of 88,384 votes. The runner-up, Mahesh Pratap Singh from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), trailed by a margin of 16,940 votes. The margin between the winning candidate and the runner-up stood at 10.00%, indicating a closely contested electoral battle.

Rajasthan Assembly elections on Nov 23

Polling, conducted at over 51,000 booths across 199 assembly seats, commenced at 7 a.m. and concluded at 6 p.m. However, in a democratic gesture, those already in line were allowed to cast their votes. Reports suggest that due to long lines inside polling booths, voting extended until 9 or 10 p.m. in certain areas, underscoring the zeal of voters in exercising their democratic right.

The Election Commission of India will be announcing results on December 3, revealing the results for Rajasthan and four other states. The declaration will unveil the winning candidate and the future Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Nathdwara constituency. The district with the highest voter turnout, Jaisalmer, takes the lead, followed by Hanumangarh and Dholpur.
