Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: The Congress has indicated plans to name RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as its Bihar Chief Ministerial candidate amidst a CWC meeting on Wednesday. Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera insisted that the party was contesting the polls on “issues” but hinted at the possibility of having Yadav as the CM face. The party had endorsed the Bihar LoP for the post during the poll campaign in 2020 but remains reluctant about a formal announcement this time around.

“We are contesting on issues. Faces are in front of you. All is known to everyone. You are asking a question, to which the answer is already known…When the Sun is shining bright in the sky, you do not need to declare it,” he told reporters.

Khera also dismissed claims made by NDA leaders that the CWC meeting was being held in Patna as a “show of strength to alliance partners in a state where the Congress is now viewed as a spent force”.

Congress holds first CWC meeting in Bihar

The Congress Working Committee held its first-ever meeting in Bihar on Wednesday — passing multiple resolutions and addressing several global issues. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also claimed that the BJP had “mentally retired” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and considered him to be a “liability” ahead of the polls. He insisted that the upcoming assembly elections will mark the beginning of the end of the Modi government’s “corrupt rule” at the Centre.

AIMIM seeks alliance

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has also sought an alliance with the Opposition party as the poll battle intensifies. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said on on Wednesday said that party leader Akhtarul Iman wrote a letter to LoP Tejashwi Yadav proposing an alliance for the upcoming election. The party has indicated plans to contest six seats in the state.

“Akhtarul Iman has written a letter to the LoP here…and we have said through media that AIMIM is ready for alliance. Akhtarul Iman has also written that they can give us six seats. It is not up to them to decide. If they do not do this, people of Bihar would see who wants to make the BJP succeed and who wants to stop them. So, the decision is up to the people of Bihar. We have shouldered our responsibility,” he told reporters.
