The Chanpatia Assembly constituency is a part of the ongoing Bihar assembly elections, a key contest in the Paschim Champaran district. The general category seat presently faces a closely followed high stakes political contest between candidates backed by two of India’s biggest national parties namely Indian National Congress (INC) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).

The constituency is predominantly rural and has a significant voter base of various caste groups. As per the latest update on the Election Commission of India’s website, 22 rounds of counting have been completed for the constituency. As of 5:23 PM,  INC’s Abhishek Ranjan holds a marginal lead over BJP’s Umankat Singh.

Abhishek Ranjan presently tops the electoral table with 80554 votes. Ranjan is closely followed by Umankat Sing who holds 79726 votes. Tripurari Kumar Tiwari (alias Manish Kashyap) of the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) ranks in a distant third place, trailing significantly with 34401 votes.

Chanpatia Assembly constituency in West Champaran was a part of the Bettiah parliamentary seat until 2008, but it now falls under the West Champaran Lok Sabha constituency.

The current contest between Ranjan and Singh makes up for an upsetting result for BJP as the party had previously recorded 6 straight consecutive wins in the constituency. Chanpatia recorded a relatively high voter turnout of  63.82%.

The constituency is predominantly rural and has a significant voter base of various caste groups. Muslim voters constitute a substantial portion of the electorate, making up approximately 21.60% of the total.

The population of Scheduled Castes (SC) is also significant, accounting for 13.86% of the total population within the assembly segment. The interplay and consolidation of these different community votes often determine the election outcomes in Chanpatia.
