Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: The Congress Working Committee held a meeting in poll-bound Bihar on Wednesday — passing a lengthy resolution highlighting several issues in India and beyond. The party also accused the BJP-led government of “systematically dismantling democratic institutions and constitutional values”. Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that upcoming polls would be ‘the beginning of the end’ for the ruling party and lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over several issues.
“The Parliament has been undermined, and even Constitutional offices have not been spared. The Election Commission of India, long the cornerstone of our vibrant democracy, has been turned into a servile mouthpiece for the government,” the CWC said in its resolution. The CBI and ED have been reduced to blunt instruments of political vendetta, deployed against anyone who challenges Modi’s rule. Every institution of democracy and justice has been diminished, with the state becoming subservient to the interests of the ruling party and its RSS allies,” the CWC alleged.
BJP has ‘mentally retired’ Nitish Kumar: Kharge
Congress President Malliarjun Kharge also claimed that the BJP had “mentally retired” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and now considered him a “liability”. He also suggested that the upcoming assembly elections would mark the beginning of the end for the Narendra Modi government. Kharge also took a sharp swipe at the Prime Minister in his CWC opening remarks — citing the recent strain in India-US ties.
“Our problems at the international level are the result of the diplomatic failure of Narendra Modi and his government. The very friends whom the prime minister boasts about as ‘my friends’ are today putting India in numerous troubles,” Kharge said.
Tejashwi Yadav for CM?
The Congress also hinted at plans to name RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as its Bihar Chief Ministerial candidate on Wednesday. Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera insisted that the party was contesting the polls on “issues” but hinted at the possibility of having Yadav as the CM face. The party had endorsed the Bihar LoP for the post during the poll campaign in 2020 but remains reluctant about a formal announcement this time around.
“We are contesting on issues. Faces are in front of you. All is known to everyone. You are asking a question, to which the answer is already known…When the Sun is shining bright in the sky, you do not need to declare it,” he told reporters.
