Earlier today, Sudhir Kumar, the chairman of Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) and a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for connection in the BSSC exam paper leak case. The IAS Officers’ Association expressed their anger and anguish through a press release which said, “Deeply angered & anguished by the manner in which SIT arrested BSSC chairman and senior IAS officer Sudhir Kumar.”

The Press released said, “Mr Sudhir Kumar is one of the finest officers of the Cadres and the Association stands by the credentials of the officer and there is no reason for the Association to believe that any criminal mens rea could ever be assigned to Mr Kumar.”

The Association said that they will continue to stand by them and will fight for them. “The Association will fight tooth and nail for the cause of Mr Kumar, who is amongst the most honest, sincere and competent officers of the cadre.”

This year the first phase of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission examination was held on February 5 for the appointment of clerks in the state government. According to Indian Express reports, the leak of the question papers took place on the online chatting platform Whatsapp as soon as the exam began at 11am on that day. 27 people were arrested for helping students cheat in the Nawada district through electronic devices.
