Bihar Elections 2025:: Nominations for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, covering 121 seats, will start tomorrow, October 10. However, both the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition Grand Alliance have not finalised yet as to how they will divide the seats. In the next day or two, there will be intense talks, meetings, and discussions on seat-sharing. Within the NDA, leaders Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi have delayed decisions on seat distribution, while in the Grand Alliance, Mukesh Sahni and the CPI-ML hold the key to reaching an agreement, reports claim.

NDA and Opposition’s Grand Alliance yet to finalise seat-sharing

The BJP has prepared a list of potential candidates for 110 seats and sent it to Delhi on Wednesday. The Congress party has finalized candidates for 25 seats in the first phase. Other parties have also prepared their lists, but the names are expected to be announced only after the seat-sharing agreements are officially confirmed.

Congress has finalized its list of candidates for the first phase of 25 seats, even before completing the seat-sharing process. The Congress Election Committee approved the tickets at a meeting in Delhi on Wednesday. The party is believed to have chosen candidates for seats it considers safe, after discussions with the RJD and its allies.

Bihar Election 2025 LIVE Updates: Seat-sharing figures not adding up, unless BJP and JD(U) give away more seats

The Indian Express citing sources said that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) and the BJP have each claimed around 100 of state's 243 assembly seats. But the JD(U) is asking for one more seat than the BJP. The remaining seats are expected to go to smaller allies, with roughly 24 for the LJP(RV), 10 for the HAM, and six for Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).

With Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi demanding 40 and 15 seats respectively, the seat-sharing figures are not adding up. To meet their demands, the BJP and JD(U) would need to give them more by reducing their own quotas and taking seats from the RLSP. A BJP leader said that there is also the possibility of offering Chirag an additional MLC post or even a Rajya Sabha seat. However, the party leadership is unlikely to give him more than 30 seats, and his final share is expected to be in the 20s.

Bihar Election 2025 LIVE Updates: Manjhi's demand for 15 seats in a poetic fashion

Jitan Ram Manjhi via his X account demanded 15 seats, while also sharing a modified version of a famous Hindi poem, Rashmirathi, by Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. In the original poem, which tells the story of Lord Krishna asking to prevent the Mahabharata war, five villages are requested on behalf of the Pandavas. Manjhi changed the number to 15 to reflect his own demand for seats.

“Ho nyay agar to aadha do, yadi usmein bhi koi badha ho, to de do keval 15 gram, rakho apni dharti tamam, HAM wahi khushi se khayenge, parijan pe asi na uthayenge (If justice permits, give us half; if that’s an obstacle, then grant just 15 villages and retain the entire land. HAM will gladly accept and won’t lift swords against our own),” Manjhi’s tweet read.
