Om Prakash Mathur, BJP Chhattisgarh incharge on upcoming two-phase polls in the state said, "BJP Chhattisgarh is fully ready for the elections. We will form the government with full majority in the state...Even in Rajasthan BJP will come to power." (ANI)
After the dates of Assembly polls were announced in five states, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday took a dig at the BJP, saying the "party's farewell has also been announced".
"With the announcement of elections in five states, the farewell of BJP and its allies has also been announced. In Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram, the Congress party will go to the people with strength. Public welfare, social justice and progressive development are the guarantees of the Congress party," he said in a tweet.

"The elections in Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, MP and Telangana will have 8.2 crore male and 7.8 crore female voters. Out of these, 60.2 lakh people are first-time voters," Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said during the press conference.
There will be 1.77 lakh polling stations of which 1.01 lakh will have webcasting in the five states, CEC said.

Ahead of the announcement of election dates to five State Assemblies, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, "In 40 days we visited all 5 states and held discussions with political parties, Central and State enforcement agencies."
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said that the polls in these five states hold a unique significance as they serve as the final assembly elections before the grand stage of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

The contest in Chhattisgarh is majorly between the BJP and the Congress. In 2018, Congress won 68 seats out of 90 in Chhattisgarh, garnering a vote share of 43.9 per cent. Whereas, the BJP managed to win 15 seats and gather a vote share of 33.6 per cent.
In Madhya Pradesh, the state will elect legislators from 230 Assembly constituencies. In the 2018 elections, Congress won 114 seats with a vote share of 41.5 per cent while the BJP came second and managed to win 109 seats. Its vote share was 41.6 per cent.
However, in 2020, the Congress government lost the majority after some MLAs resigned from a faction led by Jyotiraditya Scindia, who later joined the BJP. After this, the BJP formed the government in the state and Shivraj Singh Chouhan was reinstated as the Chief Minister.
