ECI By-Election Results 2025 at Results.eci.gov.in Highlights: The results of the high-stakes bypolls held in five assembly constituencies across Gujarat, Punjab, Kerala and West Bengal have been declared. Indian National Congress’ candidate Aryadan Shoukath wins from the Kerala’s Nilambur seat while Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate, Gopal Italia has secured a notable victory in Gujarat by winning the Visavadar Assembly seat. Along with that AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora has also won from the Ludhiana West seat in Punjab. From the Kaliganj seat, TMC’s Alifa Ahmed has won.
Where the bypolls were held
Voting took place on June 19 in two Gujarat constituencies: Visavadar and Kadi and one seat each in Punjab (Ludhiana West), West Bengal (Kaliganj) and Kerala (Nilambur). In Gujarat, the Visavadar bypoll was triggered after AAP MLA Bhupendra Bhayani joined the BJP. The seat saw a turnout of 56.89%. Kadi went to polls following the death of BJP MLA Karshan Solanki and recorded 57.90% turnout.
Kerala’s Nilambur seat, which witnessed the highest voter participation at 73.26%, saw a bypoll following the resignation of CPI(M)-backed independent MLA P. V. Anvar. In West Bengal’s Kaliganj, which went to polls after the death of TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed, voter turnout stood at 69.85%. Punjab’s Ludhiana West, which saw the lowest turnout of the five at 51.33%, voted to fill the seat left vacant after the death of AAP’s Gurpreet Bassi Gogi.
Key contenders in the fray
In Gujarat’s Kadi, BJP fielded Rajendra Chavda, while Congress picked former MLA Ramesh Chavda and AAP nominated Jagdish Chavda — making it a three-way contest.
In Visavadar, the BJP’s Kirit Patel faced AAP’s Gopal Italia and Congress’s Nitin Ranpariya, setting up a triangular clash with high stakes for both the ruling and opposition camps.
In West Bengal’s Kaliganj, the contest featured Congress’s Kabil Uddin Sheikh (backed by the Left Front), TMC’s Alifa Ahmed, and BJP’s Ashish Ghosh.
In Kerala’s Nilambur, the ruling LDF nominated M Swaraj, while the Congress-led UDF fielded Aryadan Shoukath. P V Anvar, who previously held the seat as an independent, contested under the TMC banner, with BJP-led NDA’s Mohan George also in the race.
In Punjab’s Ludhiana West, the AAP’s Sanjeev Arora is up against Congress’s Bharat Bhushan Ashu, BJP’s Jiwan Gupta, and SAD’s Parupkar Singh Ghumman, in a four-way contest that could test the ruling party’s urban grip.
The outcome of these bypolls will be closely watched as a litmus test for regional parties and a mid-term mood check ahead of upcoming state elections.
