Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal: The Rouse Avenue court in Delhi on Monday sent Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal to a 15-day judicial custody till April 15 in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor scam.

The court has also allowed him to meet his wife Sunita Kejriwal and ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj before he is shifted to the Tihar Jail. From the court, Kejriwal will be taken to the jail amid heightened security.

In the court, where Kejriwal was produced this morning before the expiry of his probe agency custody, the ED said he had been “uncooperative” and was giving evasive answers. He did not reveal the passwords of his digital devices, the ED told the court.

Kejriwal’s lawyer has demanded some medicines and a special diet for him inside the jail in view of his illness.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court disposed of a PIL filed by the ED which sought permission to prevent Arvind Kejriwal from issuing directions from custody. The HC asked the probe agency to place the matter before a district judge, Live Law reported.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection to a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. He was sent to a 7-day ED custody on March 22 which was extended by four days on March 28 till April 1. The AAP chief was arrested after he skipped nine summons by the central agency. He has been running his government from the ED lock-up since.

The Delhi CM has dubbed his arrest a “political conspiracy”, which comes just ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and has led to furious protests from the opposition camp. He is the third AAP leader after his former deputy Manish Sisodia and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh to be arrested in the liquor policy case.
