Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s self-imposed 48-hour deadline to resign as the CM ends today. He is scheduled to meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4.30 pm, however, who will succeed him still remains a mystery.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal held one-on-one meetings with senior leaders of the AAP to gather feedback and deliberate on the party’s next steps on Monday. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to decide on the next chief minister at the legislative party meeting at 11.30 am on Tuesday, sources told India Today.

“AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal called a meeting of the PAC (Political Affairs Committee) in which all the senior leaders and Cabinet ministers of Delhi were called. He also held a one-to-one discussion with all the leaders and ministers regarding the new Chief Minister. Tomorrow, the second session of this meeting will be held with the MLAs,” Saurabh Bharadwaj said while speaking to reporters on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Raghav Chadha met Arvind Kejriwal at his residence where they discussed the probables for the Delhi Chief Minister’s post. This came two days after he got bail and a day after Kejriwal dropped a bombshell that he would resign till Tuesday.

The list of probables is led by AAP’s most prominent minister Atishi. The others include Saurabh Bhardwaj, Raghav Chadha, Kailash Gahlot and Sanjay Singh. Sunita, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, can also be a likely contender.

While announcing that he would resign, Kejriwal had also sought a November election along with that of Maharashtra. His party has said the people are eager to elect him back. Assembly polls in Delhi are due in February next year.

While ordering his bail, the Supreme Court remained shy of asking Kejriwal to step down from the CM’s post. Still, it said he could not go to his office or the Delhi Secretariat, or sign files without Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s consent — effectively restricting him from functioning as a Chief Minister.

The BJP has sneered at Kejriwal’s move as a “PR stunt” and a “mere gimmick” in a bid to correct his image.
