Amethi Lok Sabha Election 2024 Results Highlights: Congress’s Kishori Lal Sharma won the Amethi Lok Sabha seat by defeating BJP candidate Smriti Irani by a big margin of 167,196 votes. According to the Election Commission, Lal received 539,228 votes compared to Irani’s 372,032 votes. Lal’s vote share is 54.99%, while Irani’s is 37.94%. Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi went to polls on May 20 in the fifth phase of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections. This constituency was once a coveted seat for the Gandhis. However, it is the first time in 25 years that the Congress chose a non-Gandhi candidate to contest from here.

"I am proud to say that I have served the people of Amethi and I have gone to every house. As a political activist, I promise to keep doing so. I have given 10 years of my life to the people of Amethi and that has been my biggest fortune," Smriti Irani said while congratulating Kishori Lal Sharma.
Speaking to ANI, Sharma told ANI that his victory is the victory of the Gandhi family and the of the people of Amethi. “I didn't fight this election, the people of Amethi did…The Gandhi family gave me the ticket and bestowed a responsibility on me, and I think I am fulfilling their expectations,” the Congress candidate said.
Sharma's importance within the Congress party was highlighted when Priyanka Gandhi led his roadshow, alongside former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. "Our family has a longstanding association with Kishori Lal Sharma-ji. He has consistently dedicated himself to serving the people of Amethi and Raebareli. His commitment to public service is exemplary," remarked Priyanka Gandhi.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and shared an emotional message for Kishori Lal Sharma where she said that she knew he would win from Amethi. "My heartiest congratulations to you and my beloved brothers and sisters," she added.

This time, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi chose not to run from Amethi, a seat that was traditionally held by the Congress until he lost to Smriti Irani in 2019. Instead, Rahul Gandhi contested the Lok Sabha election from Rae Bareli, taking over from his mother Sonia Gandhi, and from Wayanad, where he won in the previous election.
In Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi is currently ahead of BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh with 255,698 votes. In Wayanad, he is leading by 324,320 votes ahead of his closest competitor, Annie Raja of the Communist Party of India.
Priyanka Gandhi took to platfomr X, formerly Twitter, and congratulated INC candidate Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi for maintaining an impressive lead over BJP's Irani.
Congress is set to come back with a bang as Kishori Lal is ahead by over 76,000 votes.

Kishori Lal Sharma played a crucial role in helping Sonia Gandhi win in 1999, which was her first time being elected to Parliament. Later, when Sonia Gandhi started representing Rae Bareli, Sharma supported her there too. In 2004, when Rahul Gandhi won the Lok Sabha seat from Amethi, Sharma started managing the party's affairs in both Amethi and Rae Bareli. He continued doing this even after Rahul Gandhi shifted to Amethi in 2004. When the Gandhis weren't around, Sharma took care of these important constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
INC's Kishori Lal Sharma, originally hails from Punjab. He came to Amethi in 1983 to work for the Congress party. He was quite close to the late Congress leader and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Even after Rajiv Gandhi passed away in 1991, Sharma stayed loyal to the Congress in Amethi, even when the Gandhi family wasn't directly involved in elections during the 1990s. He supported other Congress candidates during that time.
Kishori Lal has continued to maintain a massive lead in Amethi with 232223 votes. Smriti Irani on the other hand is trailing with 167658 votes.
Irani is still trailing and Congress is leading in Amethi.
