AIMPLB seeks ‘urgent appointment’ with President Murmu, announces plans for nationwide protests over Waqf Amendment Bill

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board sought an “urgent appointment” with President Droupadi Murmu on Friday after the Waqf Amendment Bill cleared the Parliament. The development came even as Opposition lawmakers moved the Supreme Court challenging its constitutional validity and protests broke out in various parts of the country against the contentious Bill. The AIMPLB has also announced plans to initiate nationwide protests and legal action against the amendment.

A press released shared by the AIMPLB indicated that it was seeking an early appointment with the President in order to express their “deep concern” regarding the recently passed document. It also claimed that the Bill was “thoroughly unconstitutional” and an attack against the Muslim community in India.

A Bill typically becomes an Act after passing through the two Houses of Parliament and subsequently obtaining approval from the President.

“The ruling government, intoxicated by its power, is moving forward while creating an atmosphere of division in the country to hide its own faults and mistakes, and this Bill is a part of that agenda. This law, which is being brought under the guise of addressing the concerns of Muslims, is unacceptable to Muslims and will be devastating for Waqf properties. It is unfortunate that the government has paid no attention to the demands of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and other national organizations and has ignored the voices of opposition party MPs and civil society,” said AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Muhammad Fazlur Raheem Mujaddidi.

The AIMPLB also appreciated the efforts of Opposition parties for their solidarity over the matter and called for Muslims affiliated with the ruling coalition to ‘reflect’ on their “disloyalty”.

 “The government’s stance regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 is regrettable. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board will soon undertake nationwide protests and legal action against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025,” the AIMPLB had written on X after the Bill passed in the Rajya Sabha.
