Hisar Assembly Election Result 2024: India’s richest woman, Savitri Jindal, has won the Hisar assembly seat, defeating Congress candidate Ram Niwas Rara, according to the latest data from the Election Commission of India. Running as an Independent, Jindal received 30,290 votes, securing victory over Rara, who trailed with 17,385 votes, marking a difference of 18,941 votes.

Jindal, the mother of industrialist Naveen Jindal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Kurukshetra, previously represented Hisar from 2005 to 2014, a seat held by her late husband, O.P. Jindal, who was elected three times.

As chairperson of the OP Jindal Group, a major steel and power conglomerate, Jindal took over the business after her husband’s death in a 2005 helicopter crash and has expanded its influence in the industrial sector. She was elected to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha on a Congress ticket but lost her seat in 2014 and did not contest in 2019.

This election saw support from Zee TV founder Subhash Chandra, who was involved in a lengthy legal dispute with Naveen Jindal over allegations of coercion and corruption against two editors of the Hindi entertainment channel.

Jindal has held key portfolios in the Haryana government, including Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management and Minister of State for Urban Local Bodies and Housing under former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. She is also recognized for her philanthropic efforts in education, healthcare, and rural development, consistently ranking among the world’s wealthiest women.

Her primary competitor, Kamal Gupta of the BJP, previously served as Haryana’s Health Minister and has won the Hisar seat in both 2014 and 2019.
