Vodafone Idea has approached the Supreme Court of India in a fresh writ petition. The company has challenged the calculation behind the revised AGR as per a report by CNBC-TV18. It has also asked for the additional tax demand by DoT for FY17 to be set aside, added the CNBC TV-18 report.
In the writ petition, Vodafone Idea has approached the Supreme Court to quash the Department of Telecom’s fresh tax demand of Rs 2,774 crore. The company said that the DoT’s fresh tax demand goes beyond the apex court’s previous ruling on Vodafone’s AGR dues.
DoT’s fresh tax demand from VI
The Department of Telecom has demanded an extra 2,774 crore from Vodafone Idea for the period of FY18-19. The company has challenged the DoT’s demand, stating that certain amounts are added twice and need reconciliation, as per CNBC-TV18.
Further, the Department of Telecommunications raised an additional Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) demand for FY17 and also revised the outstanding licence fee for FY19.
In its petition to the Supreme Court, Vodafone Idea is seeking a total recalculation of its dues from the period before FY17.
VI: DoT’s previous demand
Earlier, the Department of Telecommunications had demanded Rs 5,960 crore from Vodafone Idea. The latest demand for Rs 2,774 crore puts additional stress on the debt-ridden company.
