The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has emerged as a transformative initiative by the Government of India to enhance rural connectivity through all-weather roads. Initially launched as PMGSY-I, it targeted providing single-road connectivity to eligible unconnected habitations within the core network. Building on its success, subsequent interventions like PMGSY-II, Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Areas (RCPLWEA), and PMGSY-III were incorporated, focusing on upgrading rural roads, constructing vital roroadads in Left Wing Extremism-affected regions, and strengthening major rural links.

Recent statistics released by Union Minister of Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in the Rajya Sabha highlight the program’s significant accomplishments. Under PMGSY-I, an impressive 99.38% of eligible habitations now boast all-weather road connectivity. PMGSY-II achieved 48,691 km completion out of the sanctioned 49,857 km, while RCPLWEA witnessed 8,290 km completion out of the allotted 12,100 km. Furthermore, PMGSY-III successfully completed 69,507 km out of the targeted 1,25,000 km.
