As a layer of fog descends upon Delhi, disrupting normal life, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, warning residents and commuters to brace themselves for challenging weather conditions on Tuesday (January 23).
According to a statement issued by the Indian Railways, 28 Delhi-bound trains are running behind schedule due to the adverse weather conditions affecting various parts of northern India. This disruption is a result of the reduced visibility, which hampers the normal operation of train services. The delayed trains are causing inconvenience to passengers and prompting railway authorities to implement necessary measures to ensure safety and efficient operations.

Reduced visibility
Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, reported a visibility of a mere 500 meters at 5:30 am, setting the stage for what is expected to be a foggy day. Simultaneously, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) recorded visibility at 1,000 meters at 6:30 am, indicative of the widespread nature of the fog.
Delhi weather update
The IMD’s forecast anticipates mainly clear skies with moderate to dense fog during the morning hours, creating visibility challenges across the city. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are expected to settle around 18 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively, adding a layer of cold discomfort to the already challenging weather conditions.
