The Central Railway is set to operate 18 special long-distance trains to and from Mumbai, along with 12 additional local services, in anticipation of the surge in visitors to the city on December 6, marking B R Ambedkar’s death anniversary, Mahaparinirvan Din.

The scheduled operations include 18 special long-distance trains (eight towards Mumbai) and 10 departing from Mumbai, alongside 12 supplementary suburban services, facilitating the movement of people from various locations on December 5 and 6.

Detailed security measures put in place

To manage the increased influx, the Central Railway has deployed extra Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, especially at Dadar and other key stations in Mumbai. 

On December 5 and 6, Dadar station will see an additional 140 RPF personnel and 250 GRP personnel on duty. Furthermore, 24 extra RPF personnel will be stationed at CSMT, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), and Kalyan stations during this period, as per an official release.

December 6 attracts people from across Maharashtra and other states to visit Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, paying homage to Ambedkar on his death anniversary. To ensure smooth crowd management, additional commercial staff will be deployed at strategic locations, including 40 at Dadar, 20 at CSMT, and 10 each at Kalyan and LTT stations, as announced by the Central Railway.

Additional enquiry and UTS counters 

Facilitating public convenience, extra enquiry and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counters will operate at Chaityabhoomi, with two additional UTS counters at Dadar and CSMT stations.

Auto announcements regarding train schedules will be made, and details about special trains will be accessible through the railways’ app and other private applications. Help desks will be established at CSMT and Dadar stations.

To maintain crowd flow, Dadar station’s entry and exit points will be made unidirectional, ensuring a smooth movement of people. Round-the-clock deployment of doctors and paramedical staff at Dadar, Kalyan, Thane, and CSMT stations on Tuesday and Wednesday has been arranged. 

The release also guarantees the upkeep of urinals, toilets, and the availability of drinking water at major stations, with cleaning staff available 24 hours. Additionally, the Mumbai civic body has installed extra temporary urinals and toilets within the railway premises at Dadar station.
