The Central Railway has installed a state-of-the-art mist cooling system on three platforms at Nagpur station to help passengers cope with the intense summer heat. The mist cooling system has been installed on platform numbers 1, 2, and 3.
This innovative solution aims to improve passenger comfort during the peak summer months from April to June, when temperatures in Nagpur can exceed 45 degrees Celsius, according to an official release.
“This system effectively reduces the ambient temperature by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, providing much-needed relief to passengers. The cooling effect is achieved through the evaporation of water dispersed by strategically placed nozzles around the platforms,” the release stated.
Nagpur reels under heatwave conditions
Heatwave conditions have been reported in parts of Maharashtra and Vidarbha, and the Regional Meteorological Centre in Nagpur has issued a yellow alert for the next two days, until May 30. The weather officials said that the heatwave conditions have prevailed at several locations in Vidarbha over the last 24 hours. Nagpur also faced extreme heat, reaching 45.6 degree Celsius, the highest temperature in May in the last 10 years.
Several parts of the country, particularly the northwestern region, continue to suffer from severe heatwave conditions, breaking previous records. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Churu district in Rajasthan recorded a maximum temperature of 50.5 degrees Celsius, the highest in the country today.
Meanwhile, the Mungeshpur area of Delhi recorded 49.9 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature in the national capital this season.
