An Indian healthcare professional has shared her frustration after facing a fourth rejection for a US B1 visa, despite having a well-defined purpose for travel and a solid professional background.

The applicant who is a healthcare service professional, had planned to travel to the firm’s US office in Coppell, Texas. The visit was intended to attend a workshop involving providers from across the United States, aimed at improving patient-doctor experiences and identifying workflow inefficiencies within the system.

Why was the visa rejected?

Despite her extensive experience in the healthcare sector, over 17 years since November 2007, the visa officer at the US Embassy in New Delhi declined her application after a brief round of questions. She shared that the consular officer inquired about the purpose of her trip, her job title, professional background, and international travel history. She responded that she had previously travelled to Vietnam in June 2023 for tourism and that she had no intention of staying in the US beyond the short-term work-related visit.

“I’m married and only need to be there for a few weeks each year for work,” she said in her post. “I genuinely don’t understand what more they expect. My intention has never been to settle there.” The rejection was delivered with a simple statement: “You don’t qualify for this visa at this time.”

‘Forget applying for US visas’

“Forget applying to future US visas and save your money. It’s time to look beyond USA. 4 refusals made your case a LOT weaker in the eyes of Consul Officers. The more refusals you have, the highest chance of one more refusal and very very slim chance to get approved. It’s time to accept the fact and move on,” wrote a user.

“Your 4th attempt shows your clear signs of desperation. Which makes your legit (if) case bit dodgy,” added another. “CO believes you will work without authorization. Also, your previous refusals made it easier to refuse you now.You should forget applying for a US visa,” added a user. “If you have to be there for a “few weeks” they are determining that you’re not just going to a conference or a couple of meetings, they are determining that you’ll be working. There are some kinds of work permitted “the tailor’s exemption”, but it’s limited.Rather than come in an say you are just attending this workshop, if you have plans to be there for a few weeks, you should be very transparent about why you need to be there for a few weeks. Tell them what the nature of the work is. It may be permitted. But you can’t obscure it behind the conference or whatever,” stated a netizen.

“Why can’t these meetings be remote? There is very little reason these days for you actually to need to be in the US for work reasons,” questioned another. “Don’t you get it? It’s not about why you want to go to the US. It’s about why the officer thinks you will leave the US after your temporary stay. And you clearly haven’t demonstrated that. You should not apply again unless there has been a significant change in your personal or professional circumstances,” claimed another.
