A Reddit user made waves on Tuesday after wondering if an 911 emergency call would impact his US H1-B visa application. The post has since gone viral with many on the social media platform opining that domestic violence was a far more urgent concern than visa renewal issues.

Hundreds of thousands of Indians apply for H-1B visas every year with only a scant handful managing to secure the coveted documents. Concern about applications have also spiked in recent months as the Donald Trump-led administration cracked down on immigration — with many social media users outlining potential hurdles and seeking advice.

‘Precautionary call to 911’

“Last week, In the heat of an argument with spouse, made a precautionary call to 911 which were cancelled with in few seconds but they showed up on the door. Made an incident report but no warning no citation or arrest. Asked us about what leads to make a call to 911 blah blah…but told us to nothing to worry about and that unfortunately they have to make an incident report. Any potential impact to H1B extension or Visa?” the Reddit user wrote.

The post appears to have left netizens somewhat flummoxed with many noting that domestic violence was a far bigger concern than H1-B visa status.

“I would be more worried about the domestic situation than the visa situation at this point,” wrote one user.

“Spouse made the call or you? Either way this situation should be more alarming than H1B impact. No one makes a heat of the moment 911 call unless they felt threatened intrinsically,” agreed another.

“Shouldn’t be any impact to future filings but be forewarned, some states require police to file a report if you call in for DV, even if you don’t want to press charges against the person,” warned a third.

‘Received a speeding ticket’

Another user post voiced concerns about H1-B visa chances being impacted after receiving a speeding ticket in Texas.

“I recently received a speeding ticket in Texas for driving 15 mph over the speed limit. The ticket was classified as a Class C Misdemeanor. I understand this is generally a minor offense, but I’m wondering if this will have any impact on my H1B visa, including my extension, stamping, or even my green card process in the future,” the user lamented.

“Have you tried speaking to an attorney to get this ticket pled down or dismissed? Have you already pled guilty? Also, I very much doubt that this could affect your chances of a renewal much. It certainly doesn’t affect your current visa status. I personally have had a dismissed ticket, and a friend of mine has had 3 12+ mph speeding tickets over the last 4 years,” reassured one comment.
