Moving to the United States for higher studies is a dream shared by countless students across India. But for one applicant, that dream came to an abrupt halt in just a few seconds.
In a post on Reddit, a user described how his friend’s F-1 visa interview at the US Consulate in Chennai ended before it could even begin. According to the post, the interview took place on November 10 at 9:30 a.m.
“The officer asked just two questions,” the Redditor wrote. “Which university? He said Northeastern, Which program? He said Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence.”
What followed shocked the applicant. The visa officer reportedly returned his passport, informed him that his visa had been refused, and told him to “try again next time.” No explanation, no 214(b) slip, just a brief exchange and a rejection.
“It feels incredibly unfair,” the user added. “Students spend months preparing and dreaming of their master’s, only to be dismissed in seconds without any reason.”
‘University is a visa mill’
Netizens spotted some of the issues in the applicant’s answers. A user noted, “you know the reason – you just refuse to accept it. The university is a known visa mill.” Another added, ” What’s stopping the DHS from revoking the form I-17 issued to NEU. That would save students a lot of time.”
“Northeastern is a total visa mill… revenues are from International students desperate to come to the US,” added a netizen. “Irs better tonget rejected now than to be removed after 5 years in US. Its better for US and you . People here are not getting jobs these days,” claimed another.
“Keep trying and you will prevail one day. Don’t give up,” advised a user.
