The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has unveiled a detailed plan to connect Noida International Airport with Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The plan involves extending the Golden Line Metro track, which currently runs from Aerocity to Tughlakabad, to Kalindi Kunj.
This extension will create a direct link to the Botanical Garden Metro Station, offering enhanced connectivity and reducing travel time for thousands of passengers.
As per the proposal by DMRC Chief Project Manager Shiv Om Dwivedi, a 5 km elevated metro track will be constructed between Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj, with two new stations—Sarita Vihar and Madanpur Khadar—being added along the route.
The estimated cost for this extension is Rs 950 crore, a budget that has been requested from the Yamuna Development Authority. The DMRC highlights that this extension will connect the Golden Line to the Magenta Line, further improving passenger convenience.
Metro link likely to be completed in 3 years
The project is expected to be completed within three years, aiming to provide quicker and easier travel between Noida, Greater Noida, and Delhi IGI Airport, according to a news report in News18. However, the proposed 72.4 km Namo Bharat Metro route, which is planned to connect to Noida International Airport, is expected to take at least six years to finish.
Currently, the Botanical Garden Metro Station links the Magenta Line and the Blue Line, with the Magenta Line running from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden via Kalindi Kunj. This line has 25 stations, including 15 underground and 10 elevated.
The proposal for this metro extension has been submitted to the government to improve connectivity between Noida International Airport and Delhi IGI Airport. Once approved, the DMRC plans to fast-track the project, offering significant benefits to the residents of Noida and Greater Noida, as well as air travelers, by enhancing the travel link between the two major airports.
