Delhi Metro’s Blue Line, which connects Yamuna Bank with Vaishali in Ghaziabad, has been awarded carbon neutral certification, marking a significant achievement for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Officials announced this milestone on Sunday, emphasizing DMRC’s ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and combating climate change.
Aligning with National Goals
This certification comes after DMRC previously secured carbon-neutral certification for its corporate headquarters at Metro Bhawan and the staff quarters located in Sector-50, Noida. The initiative aligns with the government’s objective of reaching net zero emissions by 2070, reflecting DMRC’s dedication to sustainability.
To minimize its carbon footprint, DMRC has implemented several advanced environmental practices, including energy-efficient technologies such as regenerative braking in its rolling stock, increased use of renewable energy in operations, and the construction of rainwater harvesting pits. Additionally, efficient waste management systems have been put in place to enhance environmental sustainability.
Beyond obtaining certifications, DMRC aims to inspire other urban transportation systems to adopt similar sustainable practices, setting a benchmark for eco-friendly operations, they added.
