The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (Southern Circle), A M Choudhary, along with his team, conducted a statutory safety inspection on Monday of the driverless trains supplied by China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) for Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line, running between RV Road and Bommasandra, officials said.
This mandatory inspection is a crucial step before seeking final approval from the Ministry of Railways for the new driverless rolling stock, they added.
“Once the Railway Board grants approval for the rolling stock and the signalling tests are completed on the Yellow Line, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will conduct a final inspection of the entire R-5 section,” a Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official stated.
Following the final approval, the Yellow Line will be cleared for public operations, the official added.
The first six-coach driverless metro train arrived in Bengaluru from China on February 14, 2024. The coaches were transported to the Hebbagodi depot in Electronic City, Bengaluru’s prominent IT hub.
