According to analysts at Emkay Global, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) is anticipated to achieve a 2.5% year-on-year growth in volume, while competitors like Dabur, Nestlé, and Marico are expected to see mid-single-digit growth. Emami and GCPL may experience high-single-digit growth.

EBITDA margin is forecasted to increase by 40 basis points year-on-year to 23.6%. Overall, earnings are expected to remain subdued at approximately 2%.

“Amid a stable demand setting, HUL is likely to see moderate sequential improvement in growth. We build ~1% topline growth with 2.5% volume growth. Harsh summer is likely to have an impact on the Food portfolio, where tea, coffee, and functional nutrition drinks categories are likely to have a bearing. On the back of price correction in soaps, and the anniversarization of price hikes in nutritional drinks, price decline is likely to be in the low-single digits. Gross margin is likely to see moderation QoQ, but should expand by 160bps YoY to 51.5%,” the analysts say.

HUL Q4 FY24 Results recap

In the financial year ending March 31, 2024, the Company reported a turnover of Rs. 59,579 crores, an increase from Rs. 58,154 crores in the previous year.

Profit before tax rose to Rs. 13,675 crores compared to Rs. 13,079 crores in the corresponding period, with depreciation and amortization amounting to Rs. 1,097 crores, up from Rs. 1,030 crores. Exceptional items resulted in a loss of Rs. 89 crores, contrasting with a loss of Rs. 62 crores previously.

The provision for taxation, including deferred tax, stood at Rs. 3,561 crores, up from Rs. 3,117 crores. Profit after tax increased to Rs. 10,114 crores from Rs. 9,962 crores.

The company recommended a final dividend of Rs. 24 per equity share for FY 2023-24, having earlier paid an interim dividend of Rs. 18 per share on November 16, 2023, bringing the total dividend for the year to Rs. 42 per equity share of face value Re. 1 each.
