IT major Wipro on Thursday announced the acquisition of the digital transformation solutions (DTS) business unit of Harman, part of Samsung, for $375 million (approximately Rs 3,260 crore).

Aimed at accelerating its engineering research & development (ER&D) services, the Bengaluru-headquartered firm said the acquisition will result in over 5,600 DTS employees, including key leadership, across the Americas, Europe and Asia transitioning to Wipro once the deal is executed. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close by December 31, Wipro said.

Boost for Wipro digital transformation

DTS has expertise in domain-led design, connected products, and software platforms, with a distinct approach that combines engineering with AI-native platforms, proprietary accelerators, and autonomous agent frameworks. The integration is expected to enable large-scale transformation while keeping people at the centre of technology. The partnership will provide clients the dual advantage of agility and scale by combining DTS’ high-touch, specialist service model with Wipro’s global reach, technology ecosystem, and resources, it said.

Calling the acquisition a pivotal step in Wipro’s transformation journey, chief executive and managing director Srini Pallia said DTS’ expertise and presence in high-growth markets will strengthen Wipro’s position as a trusted transformation partner. “Together, we’ll accelerate digital innovation, reduce time-to-market, and sharpen competitive advantage,” he said.

Multi-year agreement with Harman and Samsung

As part of the deal, Wipro will enter into a multi-year strategic agreement with Harman and Samsung to deepen ties and explore new growth opportunities. Once completed, DTS will become part of Wipro’s engineering global business line.

Christian Sobottka, CEO, Harman, said the deal will help DTS scale faster and reach more clients as part of Wipro. “This agreement unlocks the next chapter for the DTS business unit—one where it can scale faster, reach more clients in key industries, and fully realise its growth potential,” he said. DTS posted revenues of $314.5 million for the year ended December 2024, with 85% coming from services, and the remaining 15% coming from product sales, Wipro said.

Carolin Reichert, chief strategy officer at Harman, added that the move allows Harman to sharpen its focus on automotive electronics and audio innovation while collaborating with Wipro and DTS on AI-first technologies.

Deutsche Bank Securities acted as the financial advisor to Harman for the transaction.
