The Department of Telecommunications has imposed a penalty of Rs 101000 on Airtel for inadequate verification. The company, in an exchange filing, stated that the company has been penalised for violation of subscriber verification norms of the DoT.
As per the license agreement, the telecom companies are required to ensure adequate verification of customers before enrolling them as subscribers and comply with the instructions issued by the DoT. For the same, DoT conducts a periodical Customer Application Form Audit to confirm the compliance by telecom operators.
In the Customer Application Form Audit in April, the Department of Telecommunications found Airtel in violation of subscriber verification rules and levied a penalty for the same.
Airtel has said that the company will not contest the penalty and will pay it.
