Ola Electric on Tuesday said it has received government certification for its Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh), which is powered by the company’s in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack. The certification has been granted under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989, by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Manesar, a government testing agency.

“The government certification of the Roadster X+ is a major milestone in Ola Electric’s journey towards building end-to-end EV technology in India,” an Ola Electric spokesperson said in a statement.

Ola Electric to commence deliveries

Following the certification, Ola Electric will now commence deliveries of the Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh). The electric motorcycle claims a range of up to 500 km on a single charge, which the company said would make long-distance and inter-city riding more viable beyond urban centres.

Ola Electric added that the Roadster X+ is aimed at expanding electric motorcycling adoption beyond metros to Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, where longer travel distances and limited charging infrastructure have traditionally constrained EV uptake.

Tech application across the two-wheeler portfolio

With the approval in place, Ola Electric said it has extended the application of its in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell technology across its two-wheeler portfolio, covering both electric scooters and motorcycles. The same 4680 Bharat Cell platform will also be used to power the company’s portable home battery and energy storage solutions under the Ola Shakti brand.

Ola Electric on Sunday announced the scale up of its 4680 Bharat Cell powered S1 Pro+ (5.2 kWh) across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Karnataka. The company commenced deliveries across Coimbatore, Kochi and Hyderabad, along with continued ramp-up in Bengaluru.

The S1 Pro+ (5.2 kWh) is the first product powered by the company’s indigenously manufactured 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack, which the company says will deliver more range, higher performance and enhanced safety. Shares of Ola Electric were up 1% to Rs ₹35.83
