NTPC Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy, has started commercial operation at its solar power plant in Khevda at the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. The company has commenced the first phase of commercial operations at the Khavda-I Solar PV Project with a capacity of 110.25 MW out of the 1255 MW total capacity of the project.
Khavda-I Solar PV Project is a part of the larger solar project of NTPC Green Energy in the Kutch region of Gujarat. In 2021, the NTPC Green Energy announced that it would set up a 4750 MW solar energy park in the Rann of Kutch. NTPC Renewable Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy, is managing the project.
NTPC Green Energy partners PSUs and private companies
The National Thermal Power Corporation, a Public Sector Undertaking and the largest power company in India, has been focusing on going green for the last five years. The company aims to build a 60 GW renewable energy capacity by 2032. For the same, it has partnered with several state and private companies for power purchase and power supply.
On June 5, NTPC Green Energy said that it has bagged a massive order of 1000 MW capacity from the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. The company signed a Power Purchase Agreement with UPPCL to provide energy at a tariff of Rs 2.56 KWh.
NTPC Green signed multiple MoUs with the Madhya Pradesh government in February to set up 20 GW of renewable energy projects. The project includes solar, wind, and hydro projects, and the cost of the project is estimated at Rs 1.2 Lakh Crore.
NTPC Green has also signed multiple power purchase agreements with private sector companies. It has signed a 700 MW solar capacity PPA with JSW Energy for 25 years. Similarly, NTPC Green has signed PPAs with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited and Zelestra Energy for the supply of 200 MW and 400 MW, respectively, of energy.
